Pupils from The Portsmouth Grammar School have been invited to create entirely new work in response to twenty years of specially selected Festivities archive material. Experience this diverse exhibition and pay homage to Portsmouth Festivities in its 20th year.
2019 marks the 20th anniversary of the Portsmouth Festivities. It has been wonderful to look back on the fantastic events presented by the festival over the last twenty years, and to celebrate, our theme this year is ‘Twenty’. We’re paying homage to the festival’s extraordinary history with a programme that explores Portsmouth’s past and looks to its future, with new faces at the festival including The Cardinall’s Musick, award-winning restaurant critic Jay Rayner, and Estonian folk sensation Mari Kalkun. We’re also welcoming back performers who have gone on to achieve acclaim in the years since, such as cellist Guy Johnston and organist James Davy, as well as the internationally renowned chamber choir Tenebrae. All this and a host of workshops, exhibitions, talks, and shows continue to raise Portsmouth’s reputation as a centre for the creative and cultural arts. Wherever you are in twenty years’ time, you can be sure you won’t have forgotten this year’s Portsmouth Festivities.
